Finding calm in a chaotic world can feel impossible when faced with stress, anxiety and emotional turmoil which often clouds our minds and weighs down our spirits. Reiki is coming more to the forefront as a gentle holistic practice that helps peel back the layers of tension and emotional blockages. This post explores how Reiki works and how it can transform your inner life.

What Reiki Is

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation which promotes inner healing. It is important to know that it does not replace professional medical treatments but works well as a partner alongside.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: rei, meaning universal, and ki, meaning life energy, in simple terms the energy which flows through all living things, including us. When this energy is low or stagnant it can lead to discomfort or even illness.

People who receive a Reiki treatment for the first time are usually pleasantly surprised by the experience and for some, it can be a profound experience.

Uncovering Layers with Reiki

Our emotional and physical health often hides beneath layers of stress, trauma, and negative thought patterns. Reiki works gently to peel back these layers, to allow the root causes of discomfort or unrest to come to the surface. This process can bring awareness to feelings or memories that have been buried, allowing healing to begin.

Some common layers which Reiki helps to address includes:

  • Physical tension: Muscle tightness, headaches or fatigue. Symptoms can ease as energy flow improves.

  • Emotional blockages: Feelings of sadness, anger, or anxiety may surface and release.

  • Mental clutter: Reiki can calm racing thoughts and promote mental clarity.

  • Spiritual disconnection: Many people report feeling more connected to themselves and the world around them after a Reiki treatment.

A Client's Experience

The positive effect from reiki can often be felt straight away and with others, it can be more subtle and begin to unfold over time without realising it.

A client who came to see me in the summer months for a niggling health issue and job related stress is a good example for this.

A few months later, they returned for a maintenance treatment. They said that after their first reiki treatment they did not notice a massive difference in themself, nor on the day that followed. However, when they took a moment to catch their breath and reflected back, what they realised was how things around them had positively changed and had began to unfold since their initial treatment. Their symptoms of a niggling health issue was no longer present and they noticed a reduction in their stress levels. Then, out-of-the-blue, a job opportunity presented with a better home/work balance.

So, What Happened?

It is important to know that Reiki is within us and not outside of us and what happens in our inner world reflects in our outer world and visa versa.

A reiki treatment had helped to bring the client's energy flow back into balance after becoming unregulated with stress and a period of mild illness.

In science, it is understood that all matter is energy which vibrates at its own frequency.

When the energy of a living person is brought back into balance, the frequency changes and they start to function on a different wave length, transmitting a new signal outwards at a higher vibration, a bit like a radio antennae.

When my client’s energy came back into balance, a positive change in resonance happened so that their energetic frequency raised. This frequency was picked up by a matching resonance on the same level bringing a string of positive changes which ended up with a new job offer as part of the outcome.

Scientific Perspective on Reiki

While Reiki is considered a complementary therapy, more research in the scientific world is needed for scientists to fully understand how Reiki works however many people report positive effects that improve their quality of life and case studies suggest it can reduce stress and improve well-being.

Final Thoughts on Reiki

Reiki offers a gentle way to explore and help to heal the layers beneath our surface. It supports physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being by restoring the energy flow and encouraging self-awareness. Whether you are seeking relief from stress, pain, or emotional challenges, Reiki can be a valuable part of your healing journey.

If you feel drawn to try Reiki, taking this step can open the door to greater inner peace and balance.
